Salmon FishingThe Atlantic salmon or Salmo salar are found in the Atlantic Ocean and along the eastern coast of North America to the U.K. and Europe. The fish are very popular due to the very tasty flesh, but also hard to catch due to the fight they put up. Fishing for this type of salmon is made between April and October.

The Chinook (Oncorhynchus tshawytscha) is mainly found in the eastern Pacific Ocean along the coastline of North America from southern California to the aleutian islands of Alaska. Their weights vary from 18 to 30 pounds but there have been cases when they get over 100 pounds heavy. The best season to fish them is May to October, with the saltwater season the first few months.

The Pink salmon (Oncorhynchus gorbuscha) is found along the Eastern Pacific coast with a range from Northern California to Southern Alaska. In the last stages of migration, this type of salmon barely travels a few miles within inland. The best time to catch them is when you notice tides or rainfalls that force them to move upstream.

Sockeye salmon (Oncorhynchus nerka) is the most important salmon for commercial fishermen. They can be found along the west coast of North America with a range from Northern California to Southern Alaska. Millions of salmon enter along the coast of Canada, making them one of the most popular types of fish.

Coho salmon (Oncorhynchus kisutch) is well known for jumping and spinning furiously when they are caught. They are found in the eastern Pacific Ocean along northern California to the Aleutian Islands and migrate after the first year spent in freshwater. Chum salmon (Oncorhynchus keta) is found along the west coast of the Pacific Ocean from Washington State to the Bering Sea and can get up to 30 pounds. The Chum travel in schools making it very easy for beginners to practice various types of fishing techniques.
