McCloud River

McCloud RiverThe McCloud river is a 80km long river, tributary both to the Pit River and the Sacramento River. The river comes from several cascades in the southeast of Mount Shasta in Siskiyou County. The McCloud river is divided into two parts: the upper side and the lower side.

Upper McCloud has small waters, gorges, waterfalls and lush vegetation. It can be accessed rather easily, being a preferred location for fishermen or campers. The upper side is also the place where waterfalls can be found. It is often stocked with fish and it's rather difficult to catch anything.

Lower McCloud holds deeper waters with larger fish and it is less crowded because it's rather difficult to reach it. Surrounded by rich vegetation, this part of the river traverses a steep canyon.

The lower side is a part for fly/artificial lure fishery and catching and releasing is very recommended.

Two private fishing clubs can be found  near the end of the river, namely the McCloud River Club, founded in 1902 and the Bollibokka Club, founded in 1904. The Lower McCloud River hosts two campsites, respectively the Ash Camp and the Ah Di Nah Campground.
