Bass are the most sought after aquatic animals when it comes to fishing. They are aggressive feeders and are capable to hunt down their favorite foods. These predator fish are predators and tend to attack everything that enters their world.
The Largemouth Bass (Micropterus salmoides), also known as bucketmouth, has a very wide mouth, enough to swallow even its own head, and grows to over 20 pounds. In the spring, crankbaits or plastic worms are used as bait. In the summer, fish move to deeper water when the sun rises so it is better to get up early in the morning for a good catch. Crankbaits, spoons or spinnerbaits are used in the autumn to catch this type of bass , while in the winter pork baits and plastic worms are recommended. Bass are not very active fish in cold water so the bait needs to be moved slowly.
The Smallmouth Bass (Micropterus dolomieu) is much more agile for its size, faster and more powerful. Crankbaits, plastic worms and jigs are used in the spring and summer to catch the smallmouth bass. In the spring, they remain at shallow water in order to catch some heath and look for food, while in the summer bass stays in shallow water only in the morning and evening.
During the hot summer, bass have been known to feed at night. In the autumn, spoons and small jigs are used to attract bass swim towards the outside structure during the day. In the winter, fish go as deep as 40 or 65 feet so catching them becomes difficult.
